THeMIS Adder UGV in testing
A weaponised variant of the THeMIS unmanned ground vehicle (UGV) developed by Milrem has undergone live fire testing, Milrem announced on 30 November.
The variant is known as the THeMIS Adder. The testing, carried out under the supervision of the Estonian defence force, was conducted to test the stability of the platform and demonstrate the ability of the Adder remote weapon station (supplied by St Kinetics) and vehicle to communicate with each other.
The UGC was equipped with a CIS 50MG weapon for the test, but it is also able to carry weapons of smaller and larger calibre.
The UGV has been designed to support ground troops in the field. The vehicle has a payload of 750-1000kg, speed of 24km/h and endurance of up to 10h. In addition to armed support it can carry out roles including remote reconnaissance, counter improvised explosive device, medevac and supplies delivery.
Lt Gen Riho Terras, Commander of the Estonian defence forces, said: ‘Estonians have proved many times before that we can successfully be on the forefront of innovation and the Milrem UGV is a great example of that innovation when it comes to new technologies in the military field.
‘THeMIS Adder has great potential to put Estonia on the map of countries that provide new technologies and solutions to the modern battlefield.’
